From Surviving to Thriving: Our Journey and Accomplishments So Far

Val Hogan

At Layers of Change, our mission is to support and uplift our community, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to thrive. Over the past months, we have made significant strides in various initiatives aimed at providing essential resources, support, and opportunities for growth. Layers of Change has been on a whirlwind journey, and I simply must share the fabulous feats we've achieved together.

Trans-Formed In Recovery:

We’ve created a sanctuary for our Transgender and Gender Non-Conforming siblings, a haven where harm reduction and abstinence are both respected. This group is a beacon of hope, a testament to the power of unity and understanding.

Clothing Distribution:

Oh, the joy of a well-fitted outfit! We’ve bestowed around 100 stunning ensembles upon our community, ensuring everyone can strut their stuff with confidence and pride. Because fashion isn’t just fabric—it’s armor for the soul.

Binder Distribution:

For our trans youth, we’ve handed out 10 binders, accompanied by sage advice on safe practices. This, my friends, is how we support their journey, making sure they step into their true selves with courage and safety.

Laptop Distribution:

Five precious laptops have found their way into the hands of TGNC individuals, opening doors to education and employment.

Container Garden Project:

We provided the tools for a lush, green sanctuary at a trans-specific recovery home. Our container garden project is not just about fresh produce—it’s about nurturing the mind and spirit through the simple act of tending to life.

Training Initiatives:

Our board members are becoming certified Peer Recovery Specialists, and they’re all receiving mental health first aid training. We’re arming our team with the skills to provide unparalleled support, because our community deserves nothing less.

What’s Next?

Oh, but we’re not done, my dears. There’s so much more to come:

Mobile Outreach Initiative: We’re on a mission to fund a van—a magical chariot to deliver food, clothing, and essential resources directly to those who need them most. Imagine the joy, the relief, the love we’ll spread on wheels.

Support Group for LGBTQIA Sex Workers and Survivors: In partnership with Safe Harbor, we’re crafting a support group for LGBTQIA sex workers, human trafficking survivors, and those who’ve faced intimate partner violence. It’s about creating a safe space where they can heal, thrive, and reclaim their power.

Back to School Event: With He, She, Ze, and We, we’re hosting a back-to-school and clothing drive for our TGNC youth. We’re ensuring they step into the new school year with everything they need to succeed and shine.

A Call for Support

Now, this is where you come in. Our journey has only just begun, and we need your help to continue this path we are on. Your donations are the lifeblood of our mission. Every dollar, every cent, is a step towards a brighter, more inclusive future.

So, please consider DONATING

Your generosity will fuel our dreams, and together, we’ll move from surviving to thriving.

With Gratitude, Val Hogan
